Visit Alligator Alley: Hold Baby Alligators

You can actually hold baby alligators when you visit Alligator Alley, located in Summerdale, AL, which is about 20 miles north of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Possibly even more amazing than holding a small alligator is watching the alligators’ feeding time. Members of the feeding crew walk right out to the alligators and feed them. Watch the video below to get an idea of what you will see.

Take a nature walk along an elevated boardwalk to see approximately 200 rescued alligators living in their natural habitat at the Alley, along with turtles, ospreys, and owls. Meet Captain Crunch, a 13 ft, 2 inch alligator who weights 800 lbs. Learn fascinating alligator facts such as these:

• Alligators grow to a maximum length of 14 ft, but 13 footers are rare.
• An alligator can live up to about 50 years max. The oldest recorded age is 56.
• Large alligators can go as long as 18 months with no food!
• An alligator’s diet is made up of turtles, otters, beavers, snakes, frogs, birds, and fish.
